The stables at Villa Talon in Volta Reno are a symbol of a tradition that is still alive

The name of “Talon” is also intrinsically linked to the profound passion and devotion of the Talon Sampieri family for horseracing, a sport rich in traditions with roots that run deep in ancient history. It is no coincidence that the vast lawns surrounding the Villa were once paddocks where thoroughbreds grazed.

There is even a fresco depicting the birth of the particular breed of racehorses for which the family was famous, the “Volta” breed.

More than 170 years ago, at the Villa known then as “Volta Reno” near the town of Argelato, the family began breeding the racehorses which became known with the name of “Volta”, and became one of the most important breeds in the history of racing, not only in Italy but even abroad. The distinctive colours of the stable were its  “blue silks and cap” . Founder of the breeding farm was the French aristocrat Denis Gabriel Victor Talon, who married the Marquise Carolina Sampieri, last descendant of the ancient Sampieri dynasty.

During the mid-20th century, the racing silks changed to “orange and turquoise” when the “Razza Volta” stable became Artus Talon, maintaining this name until 1997. Since then, the historic tradition has continued with Renata Ramondini Talon, who has taken the reins of this important legacy and continues to carry it forward by breeding in Tuscany.
